"it was a nice question, for the cape" [GLOR]

This is the first of a couple of travel-related posts that we'd like to share with you. For Sherlockians willing to travel (or lucky enough to live in areas with active societies or related events), there is never a dearth of activity.

For those of you living in or traveling to the Mid-Atlantic area of the eastern United States, you should be aware that Cape May, NJ is holding its annual Sherlock Holmes Weekend from March 2-4, 2007 and again from November 2-4, 2007:

Weekend Events

The Game's Afoot - Friday evening, 8:30 p.m.
Join your fellow “partners in crime” for an exciting evening, as former President Benjamin Harrison joins the mayor and other dignitaries to honor the English duo. Mayhem ensues. The President is attacked. The mayor is appalled. Watson is perplexed. Holmes consults with the Capitol Gentlemen, fearing he is dealing with ruthless miscreants who would destroy the very foundations of this nation, during its time of greatest economic upheaval. And so it begins again for Holmes and Watson. Start to formulate your theories as Holmes and Watson set about solving the case at hand. The evening includes desserts, coffee and tea. A cash bar will be available. Registration begins at 8:00 p.m. and doors open for seating at 8:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Victorian costumes.

Search for Clues Tour - Saturday afternoon, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
Continue your search for the solution to the crime as you visit six of Cape May’s Victorian treasures. Perhaps you will encounter Holmes and Watson on their quest for clues as you enjoy your self-guided tour. Complete the answer sheet as you tour and maybe you will be the grand prizewinner!

The Game Continues in Mr. Holmes' Study - Saturday afternoon, 3:30 p.m.
It’s time to adjourn to Mr. Holmes’ study to witness the world’s foremost consulting detective as he unveils the clues to our mystery. How have you fared in your search? Is it really elementary? Have you matched wits with the celebrated detective? After the clues are revealed, it’s time for the fun – look-alike contests and more best-dressed Victorians.

Holmes Unlocks the Mystery! - Sunday, 12:30 p.m.

Enjoy a hearty brunch with Mr. Holmes, Dr. Watson and the full cast of characters. Is the villain among us? Have you chosen well? Once the mystery is solved, the winners will be announced, and grand prizes awarded. You need not be present to win!

Optional Events

Dinner on the Orient Express - Saturday, 7:30 p.m.

All aboard at the Mad Batter! Enjoy a five-course dinner inspired by the menu served to passengers on this famous locomotive and play along to solve the murder mystery. Period costume is highly encouraged. Prizes for best costume and solving the mystery. Limited to 60.

East Lynne Theatre Company - Saturday, 8:00 p.m.
The East Lynne Theater Company presents Sherlock Holmes mysteries in the style of a 1930’s radio broadcast, complete with sound effects. Performances begin at 8:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Decatur and Hughes Sts.
