It's that time of year, when Sherlockians and Holmesians across the globe wish each other a Canonical holiday greeting that still holds its weight today, amidst the politically correct phrases that are uttered. As a reminder, we take the quote from 'The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle,' which opened thusly: <blockquote>I had called upon my friend Sherlock Holrnes upon the second morning after Christmas, with the intention of wishing him the compliments of the season. </blockquote> And as we near Christmas, our thoughts naturally gravitate toward The Baker Street Journal Christmas Annual, which for 2005 is titled "Once a Week in Baker Street: the Boucher-Green Years." Baker Street Irregular H. Paul Jeffers examines the flurry of creativity that went into creating the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0743520459/ref=pd_cmp_rvi_1_a/103-0208521-5746279?n=283155" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);">Sherlock Holmes radio series starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce</a>. But the news that you're proabably interested in is this: the Annual will go to press next week and will likely be mailed on January 10. Be on the lookout for it. And while we're on the subject of Paul Jeffers, not only is he an avid Sherlockian, but he is a noted scholar whose area of expertise is Theodore Roosevelt, as well as other historic figures. Sherlockian Status Symbol

Sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, doesn't it? Be assured, there are ways of showing your Sherlockian pride without looking like a total misfit. One trend that seems to be sweeping the mainstream public is that of oval stickers - you've seen them. Some say MV (for Martha's Vineyard), or 26.2 (a marathoner), or simply have a profile of a favorite breed of dog. Well, you needn't wait any longer! The Sherlockian answer to such bragging is here. While Sherlock Holmes referred to Irene Adler as <a href="http://www.bakerstreet221b.de/canon/scan.htm">"the woman,"</a> Sherlockians everywhere refer to the January gathering of the Baker Street Irregulars as "the weekend." Below are the details as currently known, courtesy of Peter Blau. Sherlock Holmes' 152nd birthday will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 13, with the traditional festivities in New York, but the first formal event will be <a href="http://www.ash-nyc.com/">The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes'</a> ASH Wednesday dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. at O'Casey's (<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=22+e+41st+st.,+ny,+NY&iwloc=A&hl=en">22 East 41st Street</a>); attendees pay their own checks, but it will would be helpful to let <a href="mailto:">Ev Herzog</a> (301 Warren Avenue #203, Baltimore, MD 21230) know if you're coming to the event. On Thursday, The Baker Street Irregulars' Distinguished Speaker Lecture begins at 6:15 pm on the 6th floor of the Williams Club (<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?q=24+e+39th+st.,+ny,+NY&spn=0.013744,0.037875&iwloc=A&hl=en">24 East 39th Street, between Madison and Park Avenues</a>), and the speaker is Leroy Lad Panek, who won an <a href="http://www.mysterynet.com/edgars/">Edgar</a> in 1988 for Introduction to the Detective Story (which has a chapter on Conan Doyle). Breakfast is not included in the price this year. Other charges (telephone calls, meals, room service, drinks, etc.) are not covered. This blog is designed to bring you up-to-date information on happenings with the world of Sherlock Holmes - goings-on with the Baker Street Irregulars (including the BSI Weekend festivities and publications), Sherlockian societies, entertainment and multimedia news, as well as links to other Sherlockian sites of interest.

Titles</h4>
"...the jovial title..." [VALL] You may notice that every blog post has a subtitle with a quote. These are phrases that were used in the 60 Sherlock Holmes stories, along with the four-letter abbreviation that refers to the story from which the quote came. You can find <a href="http://www.ihearofsherlock.com/p/title-abbreviations.html#.VW-woM9Viko" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">the key to these abbreviations here</a>.

We have provided an RSS subscription option. A <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feed_reader">feed reader</a> (or news aggregator) will allow you to subscribe to our site and be notified when it changes. Google has an excellent page on <a href="http://news.google.com/intl/en_us/news_feed_terms.html">feeds</a> - what they are and how to use them. Basically, it's a way of telling you that the page has been updated without requiring you to visit our blog to find out. The Google page above will lead you to a number of pages of feed readers, <a href="http://blogspace.com/rss/readers">such as this</a> and <a href="http://www.hebig.org/blogs/archives/main/000877.php">this</a>. Versions are available for many operating systems.  One excellent news aggregator is <a href="http://reader.google.com/">Google Reader</a>. It's free and easy to use.
