Connecticut Yankee William Gillette played Sherlock Holmes for more than 35 years at the beginning of the twentienth century to great acclaim, but no film of his performance remains. Here then is something rather unique that I found on YouTube: the only known audio clip of Gillette playing Holmes, matched up to photographs from his production.
