"made a record of it" [SUSS]
The Heritage Auction of the first page of Chapter XIII of The Hound of the Baskervilles happened in Dallas (and online) today. And the selling price was a record.
The opening bid was set for $85,000 and the expected selling price was estimated to be $170,000. More on the history of the manuscript and previous sales can be found here.
The last time a leaf from the Hound manuscript sold was December 2012, when it went for more than $150,000. The previous sale of another leaf was for $78,000 in December 2004.
This time, however, all of those records were shattered.
The selling price for this page of the manuscript of The Hound of the Baskervilles was $340,000 ($423,000, including the buyer's premium)
