Just three years ago, our friends at the <b><a href="http://wessexpress.com/">Wessex Press</a></b> created a sequel to their original conference Gillette to Brett. By now you have no doubt heard the murmurs of the press and those lucky souls in the U.K. who have been able to watch the new series on the BBC, <span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; color: black;"></span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sherlock-Season-One-Benedict-Cumberbatch/dp/B004132HZS?ie=UTF8&tag=thebakerstree-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"><b><i>Sherlock</i></b></a><span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; color: black;">. If you haven't, the gist is that we've left the fogs of Victorian London for a more modern-day Sherlock Holmes, played by Benedict Cumberbatch.</span><br />

And this time, instead of writing up the adventures for the Strand Magazine, <b><a href="http://www.johnwatsonblog.co.uk/">Watson chronicles his observations on his own blog</a></b>. For example, in "A Study in Pink," a serial killer is stalking London, disguising the crimes as suicides. The clue <i>Rache </i>makes an appearance over one of the bodies. This is one of many that will certainly catch your attention and make you feel like you're home, albeit in a renovated one.<br />

On October 24, <a href="http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/sherlock/"><b>MASTERPIECE Mystery</b></a>! on PBS will debut the first of three episodes of Sherlock for the U.S. audience. The first episode to air will be "A Study in Pink," followed by "The Blind Banker" on October 31, and finally "The Great Game" on November 7. All shows are scheduled to air beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to read up on the history of the <a href="http://www.bsiweekend.com/">Baker Street Irregulars</a>, you're missing out. It's a fascinating series of reads - you're not only treated to larger-than-life personalities, but a glimpse into the history of Sherlock Holmes societies around the country, New York of the 1930s and 1940s, and the challenges in keeping such an interest alive in times that were economically and martially uncertain.<br />

You can pick up a copy of the <a href="http://www.bakerstreetjournal.com/itemsforsale/bsihistoryseries.html">Nos. 4 and 5 in the BSI Archival Series at the BSJ website</a>. Previous volumes are out of print, but you can occasionally pick them up on eBay or from rare book dealers on Amazon.<br />

Christopher Morley once said that the Sherlock Holmes stories were a textbook of friendship. We've heard this platitude before, but what does it mean? How did the relationship between Holmes and Watson manifest itself in the Canon and how does that impact us as Sherlock Holmes enthusiasts today, in the digital age?<br />

We discuss the elements of Holmes and Watson and how they were influenced most notably by the personality of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; the difficulty in portraying the depth of the characters and their relationship on stage and screen; and how Sherlockians make each other's acquaintance.<br />
