In addition to the regular monthly feature of the Web links from Peter Blau's newsletter, we are unveiling a new regular series. This reader participation contest is being called Fill In the Canonical Blank.
"We approached the case, you remember, with an absolutely blank mind, which is always an advantage." [CARD]
Each month, a phrase will be posted for your consideration. The phrase will contain a blank, and you are expected to use your knowledge of the Canon to insert the character of your choice, providing an explanation as to why you chose that particular name. Think of it as "The Match Game" meets Sherlock Holmes.

You may participate by emailing us or by clicking on the "comments" link below to post directly to the blog. If we receive enough entries, the results will be consolidated and shared in a future post.

The first in the series of Fill In the Canonical Blank is:
“If you handled your money the way _________ did, you’d be penniless in a month.”

If you handled your money the way the track-going Watson did, you'd be penniless in a month.

If you handled your money the way Holmes on one of his exotic shag tobacco kicks did, you'd be penniless in a month.
