The "Escapes" section of today's New York Times ran an article entitled To a Castle, by River and Rail.
The article mentions:
- Gillette Castle State Park and William Gillette's association with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes;
- The Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, a wonderful way to see the countryside;
- The Sherlock Holmes Festival to be held in Tryon, NC November 3-6.
I can highly recommend any of the Connecticut sites - I've been there many times and Gillette Castle is where I got my start as a Sherlockian. I haven't been to the Sherlock Holmes Festival, so I can't comment on that. Anyone?
