Wiseman</a>, there are now four: </p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>"<b>The Case of Vittoria the Circus Belle</b>," in which Holmes and Watson pretend to be each other to a client, a circus performer seeking a missing colleague</li><li>"<b>The Adventure of the Haunted Man</b>" takes the two friends to Edinburgh to solve some holiday murders, combined with a ghost story for Christmas</li><li>"<b>The Case of the Inconstant Burglar</b>," brought by a landlady with a suspicious tenant and some missing jewelry</li><li>"<b>The Adventure of the Thimblerigged Ship</b>" sees Holmes undercover on a boat when a young woman is found to be missing, believed to have gone overboard</li></ul><p></p><p>Wiseman's uncommon structure is to feature Holmes as the narrator; her two Sherlock Holmes novels take the same approach. The first, <i><a href="https://amzn.to/3XYfM0x" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sherlock Holmes & the Ripper of Whitechapel</a></i>, requires that technique, as Holmes suspects his dear friend, Dr. John Watson, of the crimes. (It also has the unique perspective of removing fascination with the villain by giving him less focus than in many other stories of Jack the Ripper; instead, the victims are treated as more important than their killer, a welcome rebalancing.) </p><p><i><a href="https://amzn.to/3F9Ahip" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sherlock Holmes & the Singular Affair</a></i>, released last year, tackles the canon-mentioned case of the Aluminium Crutch, with assistance from Langdale Pike. Holmes assists a young woman who insists that someone is impersonating her fiancé in a story from before he'd met Watson. </p><p><br /></p><p>Free Sherlock also gives small grants to schools, libraries and book clubs to buy books or to support other associated activities. That is, fishing.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">We should have been tipped off early on, as in "The <i>Gloria Scott</i>," as he notes all that Trevor's estate offered:</div><blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There was excellent wild-duck shooting in the fens, <i>remarkably good fishing</i>, a small but select library, taken over, as I understood, from a former occupant, and a tolerable cook, so that he would be a fastidious man who could not put in a pleasant month there. </div></blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">And toward the end of the Canon, in "Shoscombe Old Place," we find Holmes using fishing as an excuse to get near the hall:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"></div><blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">“Is there good fishing in that part of Berkshire?”<br /><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">The honest trainer showed very clearly upon his face that he was convinced that yet another lunatic had come into his harassed life.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />“Well, sir, I’ve heard there are trout in the millstream and pike in the Hall lake.”</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />“That’s good enough. Watson and I are famous fishermen—are we not, Watson?”</div></blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">It's one thing to claim to be a good fisherman; it's quite another to prove it. Holmes knew that any disguise or alias was only as good as the proof points that supported it.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Which leads us to conclude that if he were to maintain this ruse, he must have been able to produce the goods to make his fish tale a believable one.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Maybe he got his start with hooks and lines by playing hooky at Baker Street Elementary...</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Not only was her first-floor flat invaded at all hours by throngs of singular and often undesirable characters but her remarkable lodger showed an eccentricity and irregularity in his life which must have sorely tried her patience. His incredible untidiness, his addiction to music at strange hours, his occasional revolver practice within doors, his weird and often malodorous scientific experiments, and the atmosphere of violence and danger which hung around him made him the very worst tenant in London.”</blockquote><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">Perhaps it's a good thing that she admired him, though:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><blockquote>“The landlady stood in the deepest awe of him and never dared to interfere with him, however outrageous his proceedings might seem. Holmes sets up a decoy to catch Col.
