If you're following this closely, you might recall that in May, I shared the original trailer for the new Guy Ritchie film "Sherlock Holmes."
As you're no doubt aware, Christmas Day (literally and figuratively) is approaching for Sherlockians and non-Sherlockians alike. There is new footage available in this full-length television trailer - rest assured, it's going to be as action-packed as the previous.
What do you think? While it's certainly not Canonical, this could be just the thing that the Sherlock Holmes enthusiast world needs to get a little more attention to our foremost heroes. And in a time when superhero franchises abound in both television and film, it may be an opportunity to become relevant again.

I need no presents, only this movie.
Does this resolve the mystery of my bull pup once and all?
Looks great.
Jude Law is a terrific Watson still can't imagine Downey (one of my favorite actors & one of the few I'll pay to see read a phone book) as Holmes. It's purely a physical description thing but if my choice were between a GREAT actor and a spot on Holmes look alike who is not a great actor I'll take the great actor. Sadly there are not a lot of Jeremy Bretts running around.
Then too Downey will bring in a lot of folks who have no clue of Doyle's clear description of Holmes and how wonderful would that be if this film caused people to start reading books again!
As to a resolution to the bull pup
we'll have to see if the dog makes it all the way through the movie (of course the theory that Holmes did away with him accidently or worse on purpose because of his previous college experience has been around a long time). I for one always thought Watson was showing a sense of humor telling a total stranger considering him for a roommate that he keeps a bull pup. Honestly I loved the scene with the bull pup as it made me feel like hey these folks have not tossed out the canon and in fact are using little trivia aspects that we so love to discuss. Nice touch.
I hope that Holmes will inspire youth to think through problems and equations..that would be a difficult thing to make, a film that teaches one to think Like Holmes....I who live and am born and raised in Los Angeles suspect we will see an "any" superhero film...with Sherlock being this stand-in for an interchangeable formula...Hollywood rarely takes chances.s
