Bringing stories to life in the minds of readers or theater-goers can be a challenge. We know that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a talented storyteller who managed to do just that, particularly in the former medium (and did attempt the latter <a href="http://www.wessexpress.com/html/speckledband.html" target="_blank">at least twice</a>).<br />

When William Gillette sought Doyle's approval to make some nominal changes to Holmes's personal situation in 1899, Doyle replied, "You may marry him, murder him, or do whatever you like to him." It's not clear what Holmes and Watson had to say about this development, but in the minds of the team at Baker Street Elementary, we have the opportunity to see how it might have played out during an earlier stage of their lives...<br />

My father, <a href="http://www.ihearofsherlock.com/2014/11/remembering-donald-redmond-bsi-2s.html" target="_blank">Don Redmond, BSI</a>, was an enthusiast of everything from steam trains to Sherlock Holmes. A professional librarian and a child of the Great Depression, which taught him to hold onto things because they might be needed, and hard to get, one of these days. The result, of course, was that my parents had a house full of stuff, including many, many books. Both his house and the libraries he served were embodiments of what he came to call Redmond's Law: "Bookcases are full."<br />
<br />
Redmond's Law has applied to my own surroundings for many years, and as I settle into a new house in Carleton Place, Ontario, it clearly has jurisdiction here too. Despite an unbroken 27-foot sweep of floor-to-ceiling bookcases around much of the perimeter of my study, and three overflow cases in a nearby storeroom, there are — what a surprise! — books that have not yet found a shelf, and remain in shipping cartons. I am not sure the situation will change any time soon.<br />
<br />
I've found room in the study for general books on many subjects (my collection emphasizes literature, religion and languages) and for many shades of Sherlockiana: editions of the Canon, books about Arthur Conan Doyle, non-Sherlockian books by Arthur Conan Doyle, literary analysis, histories and commentaries about drama and film, Game-playing monographs, bound volumes of the <i><a href="http://www.bakerstreetjournal.com/" target="_blank">Baker Street Journal</a></i> and other periodicals, even a few pastiches, although most of those have been relegated to the storeroom.<br />
<br />
The trouble really starts with my accumulation of books in peripheral fields, such as 19th-century history, Victorian scandals, London lore, and the history of detective fiction. In general this isn't material I look at very often, and I haven't collected it systematically, but it takes up space for all that. Let me just list a few titles:<br />
<ul>
<li>James O'Neill's <i>The Molly Maguires</i>, a novelization of the 1970 film, starring Sean Connery, that tells a rather different story of conflict in the Pennsylvania coal fields than does <i>The Valley of Fear</i>.</li>
<li>Geoffrey Moorhouse's <i>India Britannica</i>, a narrative of the colonial experience that provides the background for <i>The Sign of Four</i> and "The Crooked Man."</li>
<li>Richard Gordon's <i>The Private Life of  Doctor Crippen</i>, a novel about one of the most notorious Edwardian murderers.</li>
<li>Conte Costello's 1956 biography <i>Lola Montez</i>, telling the story of one of Irene Adler's possible originals — a volume that I have only now noticed happens to be written in German.</li>
<li>Kevin O'Brien's <i>Oscar Wilde in Canada</i>, the story of a tour by one of Arthur Conan Doyle's friends that bears some resemblance to ACD's own North American lecture tour in 1894.</li>
<li>Ian Ousby's <i>Bloodhounds of Heaven</i>, subtitled "The Detective in English Fiction from Godwin to Doyle".</li>

On May 13 <a href="http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/elementary-the-amazing-race-renew-cbs-1202426191/" target="_blank">CBS announced that it will be renewing</a> its New York-based modern take on Holmes and Watson, <i><b>Elementary</b></i>, for a sixth season.<br />

As reported by <a href="http://deadline.com/2017/05/elementary-renewed-season-6-amazing-race-returning-cbs-1202092969/" target="_blank">Deadline's</a> <span class="byline">Nellie Andreeva, "</span><i>Elementary</i> and <i>The Amazing Race </i>[also renewed on May 13] surprisingly did 
not make the list of early CBS renewals for the first time, spending 
their first spring on the bubble. But there never was serious doubt for 
the crime drama, 100% owned by CBS, which had been making writer 
staffing deals for next season, and for the most heralded reality series
 of the past decade. While its linear ratings in the Sunday 10 PM hour are soft (7.4 million viewers, 1.2 in 18-49 Live+7), <i>Elementary</i>
 has off-network and <a href="https://www.techopedia.com/definition/29272/subscription-video-on-demand-svod" target="_blank">SVOD</a> deals with WGN America, Hulu Plus and 
broadcast stations that fetch in as much as $3 million total per 
episode; and it is a nice international seller too. Just last May, CBS 
Corp. CEO Les Moonves used <i>Elementary</i> as an example of a program ownership success story, telling investors that the show had 'made approximately an $80 million profit for the corporation' the previous year."<br />

In fact, <i>Elementary's</i> ratings make it one of the lowest of scripted TV shows. But, as <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/cbs-renews-elementary-amazing-race-1003594" target="_blank"><i>The Hollywood Reporter</i></a> noted, the ratings are just one and not necessarily the most important factor in deciding the future of the show. <i>Elementary</i> "had been buried on Sunday nights, often airing outside of primetime 
thanks to NFL delays in the fall. But lucrative library deals and 
international appeal have kept the CBS TV Studios production in favor, 
and will continue to do so."<br />

While the US fan base might be small, it is dedicated and the show does well in overseas markets. As mentioned in a previous IHOSE post ("<a href="http://www.ihearofsherlock.com/2017/05/interview-with-nadia-alexander.html#.WRibz8a1uM8">Interview with Nadia Alexander, Elementary's Hope Neligan</a>"), USA Today's Save Our Show Poll had it a very close number two show to be saved; out of over 146,000 votes, it was only 1350 votes behind ABC's <i>Timeless</i>, which did not survive the renewal ax.  TV Series Finale's still <a href="http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/elementary-season-six-cbs-series-cancelled-renewed/" target="_blank">open poll</a> has 88% of voters wanting to keep <i>Elementary</i> on the air.<br />

As the networks announce their fall schedule line-up, <a href="http://www.spoilertv.com/2017/05/code-black-and-elementary-new-seasons.html" target="_blank"><i>Elementary</i> is slated for midseason</a> with 13 episodes. In the meantime, Lucy Liu will keep busy in the off-season playing Veronica, a highly successful and morally dubious alpha-female book editor on Hulu's 10 episode third season of <i>Difficult People</i>.<br />

Late addition: NBC changed its mind on <i>Timeless</i> and <a href="http://deadline.com/2017/05/timeless-renewed-season-2-nbc-1202092878/">renewed it for a second season</a>.<br />

The episode did air on Sunday, March 26. Called “Dead Man’s
Tale,” it is a satisfyingly twisty story about the mummified remains of a man run
through by a sword found in a self-storage unit. Turns out the man worked for
New York City, stealing items from people who died without heirs. One of the looted items
was a captain’s log from Captain Emerson Barker, who was also the legendary
Colonial-era pirate Black Peter.<br />

Tracing the path of the stolen logbook,
Sherlock and Joan come across the mysterious Kashgar, middleman in fencing
stolen antiquities on the dark web. Kashgar turns out to be Hope Neligan,
teenage daughter of ex-con John Neligan.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> 
</span>Hope was played by the <a href="http://soundofthebaskervilles.com/">Sound of the Baskervilles’</a> own Nadia Alexander.</div>

information about the episode garnered from the internet and joked with him

Nadia's relatives, membership of the SOB's and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">E-Times</i> subscribers, I have no doubt that the March 26 ratings will
see a significant increase in viewership, to the delight of the CBS brass…”</div>

In fact, according to <a href="http://tvline.com/2017/03/27/ncis-los-angeles-ratings-season-8-episode-19/">TV Line</a>, <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Elementary</i> “enjoyed bigger audiences while hitting their best ratings
since Dec. 18." Like TV Line, <a href="http://deadline.com/2017/03/north-carolina-kentucky-ncaa-ratings-cbs-little-big-shots-time-after-time-1202052875/">Deadline</a> attributed the bump to the Final
Four:<br />

"North Carolina’s thrilling victory provided the best result of the
tourney so far, and the surge pushed CBS’ subsequent lineup of
<i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">60 Minutes</i> (2.7/10), <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">NCIS: Los Angeles</i> (1.6/6), <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Madam Secretary</i> (1.0/4) and <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Elementary </i>(0.8/3, tracked from 10:30-11
PM) up by double digits. Whether those tentative numbers hold is another
matter, but right now almost all of CBS’ Sunday shows are at heights unseen

film/TV business for about nine years now. My initial love of acting began at
age six, when I started doing theater in my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. I
always knew it was what I wanted to do with my life, and now I’m fortunate
enough to make my living—full-time—as an actor (no day job, hooray!). I also
recently graduated s<i>umma cum laude</i> from the Macaulay Honors College (one of the
few tuition-free programs in the country) with two degrees in Physics and
Psychology. </div>

first meet Sherlock Holmes?</b></h4>

<b>NA:</b> My very first introduction to the detective was through my
grandpa, Charlie, who absolutely adores Sherlock Holmes and would always
encourage me to read Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories when I was little (though I
must admit, at that age, I had more interest in his Peanuts comic collection!).
But I would say I was officially roped into the Sherlockian world in 2010, when
a friend introduced me to the first season of the BBC <i>Sherlock </i>series. In my
opinion, the first two seasons of BBC <i>Sherlock </i>are among some of the best and
most brilliant pieces of TV I’ve seen, and the Benedict Cumberbatch-Martin
Freeman-Andrew Scott trifecta as Holmes, Watson and Moriarty is the kind of truly
spot-on, chemistry-filled casting that an actor like myself lives to watch. And
while I do not regularly keep up with <i>Elementary </i>(I’m more of a binge-watcher
than a week-to-week kind of TV consumer), both my grandpa and my mom are huge
fans of the show, so I was very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of
something I knew my whole family would enjoy and play in a world I’ve
discovered more and more of over the past few years!</div>

were cast for <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Elementary</i>? </b></h4>

<b>NA:</b> I got the audition appointment from my agents to meet with
the show’s casting director, Mark Saks. I’ve auditioned for Mark a few times in
the past so we’ve developed a good rapport and relationship. As such, he
brought me straight to a session with the director of the episode, Alex Chapple
(as opposed to bringing me in for a pre-read, where the actor only reads for
the casting director before potentially getting a callback with the director).
I was given the interrogation scene to read for Mark and Alex and, because my
agents had sent me a breakdown of the character, I knew Hope Neligan was
supposed to be very bright and really know her stuff when it comes to the dark
web.<br />

To help me get into that mindset, I went in with the lines fully memorized
(it’s usually standard to bring a copy of the scene in case you forget your
lines, but I decided to take a risk) and just tried to play the scene as if I
spent my days running business all over the dark web (in reality I wouldn’t
know where to find the dark web, let alone set up shop!). I think my level of
preparation really showed Mark and Alex that I was serious about the role and
my approach to the scene was right for the overall energy of Hope as a character.
So, just a few days after that meeting, I got a call from my agents that I had
booked the role!</div>

you were on, “Dead Man’s Tale,” took elements of Doyle’s “The Adventure of
Black Peter.” Black Peter became the sobriquet of a part-time Colonial era
pirate and you became Hope Neligan, daughter of ex-con John Neligan, who sells
the pirate’s stolen logbook on the dark web. How did it feel to be not only on
a Sherlockian TV show but also to play a Canonical-ish character based on John
Hopley Neligan, son of </b><b style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;">"absconding banker" J.H. Neligan?</b></h4>

<b>NA:</b> I think it’s always a real treat for Sherlock-based shows to
give nods like that to die-hard fans who really know their canon. And as an
actor, it’s fun because you get to see the parallels that the writers used to
form your character. Even a little thing from the original story, like Arthur
Conan Doyle’s Sherlock noting that John Hopley Neligan was too slight to run a
man through with a harpoon, was able to be brought up in our story, with our
Sherlock doubting that I could be capable of such an act with a sword (but my
father could be)! Ultimately, it just adds a really fun layer that you hope
will tickle fans of the original stories. </div>

working with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu and the rest of the cast and crew?</b></h4>

<b>NA:</b> Jonny and Lucy were very welcoming, kind, and professional.
When you come in for just a few days of work on a show that has been going on for
years and you’re working with the leads of said show, it can be a bit
intimidating, even for someone like me who has been doing this for quite a
while now. But the two of them really made me feel like a part of the team and
were very friendly both on and off set. Jon Michael Hill was also incredibly
nice and very easy to work with, which was great since I had both of my scenes
with him! When I wrapped, he even agreed to write and autograph a little note
to my mom (who, as I mentioned, is an avid fan), which I put on my copy of the
episode’s script as a little gift for her!</div>

“talk Sherlock shop” with JLM and Lucy?</b></h4>

quickly, and so I was only on set with JLM and Lucy for a few hours and for
most of that time, we were pretending to be other people! But you can tell
after five seasons, those two really know what they’re doing and understand the
beloved characters they inhabit week-to-week. It’s clearly second nature for
them, and it was awesome to see them work as Sherlock and Watson! </div>

stage and I had to get to my other job (more on that in a bit) before I was
able to sneak a peek at it. But the Precinct was really cool. It’s amazing how

stage. They even had water fountains and payphones (though further inspection
proved neither worked)!</div>

her proceeds as tuition to attend MIT, because she’s not selling guns or drugs like her dad.
To further the pirate metaphor of the episode, you captured both her certainty
as someone who’s able to navigate dangerous shoals few could handle and her
uncertainty as a kid in over her head in deep adult waters. I also liked Jon
Michael Hill’s “what the heck” look during the arrest scene when you admit
you’re Kashgar.</b></h4>

both in that scene and in the interrogation (where I got to be particularly

rolling, where, after I admitted I was Kashgar, there was a long pause, and Jon
suddenly, very comically, turned around and ran out the front door and halfway

where I play the lead villain, Melissa. Then, I’ve got two other lead roles in
upcoming films: Phil, in Boaz Yakin’s psychological thriller <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;"><a href="http://deadline.com/2016/11/im-global-acquires-maven-pictures-boarding-school-boaz-yakin-1201848303/">Boarding School</a> </i>and Mina in Justin P.
Lange’s monster tale, <a href="http://www.austrianfilms.com/films/film_detail?fid=1481568393612"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">The Dark</i></a>. I am
also currently working on a new Netflix series called <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Seconds_(TV_series)"><i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Seven Seconds</i></a>, which, funnily enough, actually shares the same
shooting stage as <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Elementary</i>—it made
commuting to work very easy that week! That should be out later this year or
early 2018! </div>

I am especially thankful to our award-winning Sherlockian for graciously taking time
out of her busy schedule to answer my questions. As for <i style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal;">Elementary</i>, its season finale will be May 21. The Sunday night 10:00 pm time-slot is not especially kind and Sunday sports can frequently push the start time close 11:00. The Masters on April 9 pushed Episode 19 back by a week. The future is
uncertain for a sixth season. <a href="http://deadline.com/2017/04/bubble-watch-elementary-2-broke-girls-quantico-exorcist-timeless-oncwe-upon-a-time-blindspotseries-renewal-status-1202068661/">Deadline</a> reported mid-April:</div>

"<i>Elementary</i> surprisingly did not make the list of early
renewals for the first time, spending its first spring on the bubble. But I
hear the crime drama, 100% owned by CBS, looks good to return and is making

10 PM hour are soft (7.7 million viewers, 1.1 in 18-49 Live+7), the series has
off-network and SVOD deals with WGN America, Hulu Plus and broadcast stations
that fetch in as much as $3 million total per episode; and it is a nice

On the other hand, with 120 episodes in the can, CBS is
all set for a successful syndication. The fans, on the other hand, would like it to return. <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2017/05/05/save-our-shows-2017-timeless-elementary-blindspot-usa-today/101251072/">USA Today</a> published the results for their annual Save Our Shows poll on May 5 and reported:<br />

"The viewers have spoken, and they want to make time for NBC's <i>Timeless</i>.The freshman series was the favorite in USA Today's Save Our Shows poll, with 49% of voters saying they'd like the historically minded time-travel drama to stick around for a second season. CBS's <i>Elementary</i>, wrapping its fifth season this month, was a very close second with 48% (a difference of 1,350 votes), with NBC's <i>Blindspot </i>and ABC's <i>Last Man Standing</i> tied for third place with far less support. It would be nice if CBS saw the poll and kept the results in mind when they make their final decision. I hope it returns for a sixth season and
wraps-up the Morland Holmes, Jamie Moriarty and Mycroft Holmes storylines and
give us a bit more of Ms. Hudson. After all, on the
show she is a Greek interpreter.<br />

Sherlockian editor and author David Marcum is always involved in multiple Sherlock Holmes projects. He just released the highly successful two volume anthology <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Holmes-Away-Adventures-Great-Hiatus-ebook/dp/B01MRU43BB" target="_blank"><i>Holmes Away From Home: Tales of the Great Hiatus</i></a>, and the sixth volume of his legendary <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Book-New-Sherlock-Holmes-Stories/dp/1787050874" target="_blank"><i>The MX book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories</i></a> will be released on May 22nd. Between these two anthologies, Mr. Marcum decided to go back to the early days of Sherlock Holmes and edit the anthology <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1306925656/sherlock-holmes-before-baker-street" target="_blank"><i>Sherlock Holmes: Before Baker Street</i></a> which is currently being funded via a <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1306925656/sherlock-holmes-before-baker-street">Kickstarter campaign</a>.<br />

We asked David about the days of Sherlock Holmes before he met his Boswell.<br />

<h4>
<b>I Hear of Sherlock Everywhere: Holmes and Baker Street seem inseparable. Why set a story collection outside of 221B Baker Street?</b></h4>
<b>David Marcum:</b> The simple answer is that there is so much more to the story of Sherlock Holmes than what occurs during the Baker Street years, or what is presented in the pitifully few 60 stories of the original Canon.<br />
<br />
I play The Game with deadly seriousness. The Game postulates that Holmes and Watson were real historical figures. Being real, they had childhoods and old ages in addition to those other more famous times of their lives that spring so easily to mind. Having read and collected and chronologized literally thousands of traditional Holmes adventures over the last 40+ years, I’ve seen all parts of Holmes's and Watson’s lives chronicled – youth and old age. For instance, there are stories that are set in the 1840s, where Holmes’s parents meet and marry. Many tales show incidents in their boyhoods and on into young adulthood. These only help to add to the rounded picture of our heroes. There was a lot of living and learning that went on for both Holmes and Watson before they first met in that lab at Barts on January 1st, 1881, when they were 26 (almost 27) and 28-½  years old, respectively.<br />

There can never be enough new Holmes stories, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to fill in the cracks in certain areas, such as reading about what happened before Baker Street.<br />

<h4>
<b>IHOSE:</b> <b>You’ve written extensively about Holmes’s residence in Montague Street, his lodgings just before moving into Baker Street. What are some interesting characteristics about this time and place in Holmes’s life? How does this setting come into play in some of the Before Baker Street stories?</b></h4>
<b>DM: </b>Many of the stories in <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1306925656/sherlock-holmes-before-baker-street" target="_blank"><i>Sherlock Holmes: Before Baker Street</i></a> are set in Montague Street, and we see Holmes acting with confidence, but sometimes with a lot still left to learn. Personally, I’m fascinated with this time in Holmes’s life, when he was in the process of becoming the individual that’s admired the world over. On all three of my Holmes Pilgrimages to London (and other parts of England), I’ve visited Holmes’s lodgings at No. 24 Montague Street, and on the second and third Pilgrimages, I was even fortunate enough to stay there, as it’s now part of a small hotel.<br />
<br />
Holmes explains in “The Musgrave Ritual” that, before he moved to the more famous Baker Street, he settled in Montague Street, next to the British Museum, where he set about learning his craft. This was the time when Holmes had come up to London to create a new profession, that of a Consulting Detective. Before that, he had been a university student, likely preparing for a conventional career. (Famed Holmes biographer William S. Baring-Gould indicated that Holmes’s father wanted him to be an engineer.) Although he’d had numerous adventures growing up and while at school, as chronicled in various narratives, Holmes hadn’t really considered becoming a detective professionally until the events of “The Gloria Scott”.<br />
<br />
Following his decision, he dived in wholeheartedly and began to educate himself in those aspects that he thought would be useful. However, he was still quite unknown and somewhat inexperienced in those days, and not the knowledgeable and world-famous Holmes that would later state, “There is a strong family resemblance about misdeeds, and if you have all the details of a thousand at your finger ends, it is odd if you can’t unravel the thousand-and-first.” This was the period of time when Holmes was accumulating those thousand details at his finger ends.<br />

<b>IHOSE: How far back in time do the Before Baker Street stories go? Any tales about Holmes as a child or young adult?  </b></h4>
<b>DM: </b>This collection begins in 1862, when Holmes is eight years old, in a story by Jayantika Ganguly called “The Adventure of the Bloody Roses.” We see, even then, that Holmes has some amazing observational skills, and we also get a look at fifteen-year-old Mycroft, giving indications of the man that he would become. Also, this story shows a wonderful connection between the two brothers.<br />
<br />
The stories proceed chronologically throughout the book, with Holmes at university and then when he’s moved to Montague Street. The adventures continue through the 1870’s, including a trip to America when Holmes was an actor with the Sasanoff acting company, a part of Holmes’s early life originally revealed in Baring-Gould’s biography of Holmes, and later explored over the years by other “editors” of Watson’s notes. Finally, the book ends with a pair of stories set in 1880, leading to Holmes’s fortuitous meeting with Dr. Watson at Barts, and his subsequent move to Baker Street.<br />

<h4>
<b>IHOSE: Is Watson completely absent from the collection?</b></h4>
<b>DM:</b> Holmes once said to Watson, “I am lost without my Boswell.” As the keeper of the Archives, Watson has access to the records of many of Holmes’s cases, both those in which he participated, and the ones that he didn’t. This includes the adventures that Holmes had before Baker Street. Therefore, there’s no way that Watson could be absent from this collection.<br />
<br />
In this volume, there are a few stories that don’t involve Watson at all, either narrated by someone who encountered Holmes and chronicled the events in his own words, or some told in third person. However, Watson appears in most of these narratives, as he is told about this or that past case by Holmes. Thankfully Watson preserved all of these pre-Baker Street adventures in his tin despatch-box.<br />

<h4>
<b>IHOSE: What new insights will readers learn about Holmes from these stories?</b></h4>
<b>DM:</b> This collection won’t show Holmes doing anything that is unexpected. There are no stories where he is secretly a wizard or a time-traveler or a criminal or Professor Moriarty’s son. He’s still Sherlock Holmes – possibly a little less skilled about what he’s doing, and certainly not as respected yet by Scotland Yard. But it’s easy to see that he’s on the path to become the Sherlock Holmes that is loved and admired around the world.<br />

<b>IHOSE:  You always seem to be working on a multitude of projects. What can we expect to see from you in the near future?  </b></h4>
<b>DM:</b> I’ve found the calm in the eye of the storm that lets me balance a lot of things right now, and hopefully that will last for a while. In addition to spending time with my family and work as a civil engineer, I’m involved in various Holmesian projects that continue to fulfill my interest in supporting the true Sherlock Holmes.<br />
<br />
I’m continuing to edit the MX anthologies, and the upcoming volume, <i><b>The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories – Part VI: 2017 Annual</b></i>, will be published on May 22nd, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s birthday. The next three volumes after that are already planned out, and amazingly I’m receiving a sizable number of stories for all of them. (The next, <i>Part VII: Eliminate the Impossible</i>, will be out in Fall 2017, <i>Part VIII: 2018 Annual</i> in Spring 2018, and <i>Part IX: Some Untold Cases</i> in Fall 2018.) The author royalties continue to go to support the Stepping Stones School at Undershaw, one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s former homes, and to this point we’ve raised around $20,000.<br />
<br />
In addition to those books, I’m involved in editing another Holmes collection of a different sort, and I’ve also written a still-secret and very exciting Holmes-related project – both of which I can’t discuss further at this point, except to say that I’m very happy to be involved with each of them. Finally, I’m working on a new Holmes novel and various short stories for different anthologies, with an eye towards collecting all of these loose tales from the past few years into a new short story collection.<br />

He resides in Colorado and continues compiling unpublished works by Dr. John H. Watson.</i><br />
