By George, Watson, it was no brain of a country publican that thought out such a blind as that!”</div></blockquote></div><div><br /></div><div>Aside from cows (or not cows) on the moor, we find moorland cows in The Hound of the Baskervilles, as Watson describes arriving on location:</div><div><blockquote><div>“In a very few hours the brown earth had become ruddy, the brick had changed to granite, and red cows grazed in well-hedged fields where the lush grasses and more luxuriant vegetation spoke of a richer, if a damper, climate.”</div></blockquote></div><div><br /></div><div>In A Study in Scarlet, Lucy Ferrier was out riding when she came across a herd of cattle that spooked her horse. Jefferson Hope showed up and saved her, and she reacted:</div><div><blockquote><div>“I’m awful frightened,” she said, naively; “whoever would have thought that Poncho would have been so scared by a lot of cows?” </div></blockquote></div><div><br /></div><div>No mention of cowbells, but we can imagine them softly ringing across the fields and moors.
