"in these columns" [HOUN]

Astute readers who visit our site will see that there's been a change to the format. We realized that the sidebar column had grown extremely long, and that it would take a very dedicated reader indeed to make it all the way to the bottom.

Now we've made it twice as easy to do so by creating a second sidebar to divide up the material and make it a little easier on the eyes. So, on the left you'll see contact information and other background-related things. On the right are recent comments, links and services within this site, as well as services outside the site and the usual variety of links you've come to expect.

Please spend some time looking around and let me know what you think.

You're right. The new format is an improvement. Good job.

I've tweaked it a little further - making both sidebars align right rather than making a sandwich out of the main body copy. I hope this still works.

Any suggestions are welcome.

You know, Scott, I've been considering what you're doing with layout for a bit here, and I think perhaps less is more. In my experience, if you give users too many options, they are overwhelmed and they click none! Maybe what you should do, is keep the two column format you had before, and start eliminating some of the items that are not clicked on by your users so much. OR you can rotate these items in and out every month or so. OR you can have a whole page dedicated to your extra items (call it "more Sherlock fun" or something) and link to that in that side bar, creating more white space.

I love your blog because it is a wealth of information, but as Holmes himself kept his "attic" cleaned out of extraneousness information, maybe you need to do the same with the main blog page.

Oh, I should clarify...

When I suggested creating a separate page, I did not mean that you shouldn't offer ANY options on the main page. I just meant that you should select a few really cool ones to highlight (again, you could rotate these in and out), then create a link to some of the others collected on another page. Hope that makes sense.
